Well first thing, a corn snake is a very good choice; they are relatively small and easy to handle and tamed very easily. They are also widely available in many different morphs and are relatively cheap. Babies can be a little skittish but thats usually not a problem. A ball python, king snake, hog-nose snake are other good choices that can live perfectly in a 29 gallon.
If you just forgot to put it down, a corn snake (as well as other snakes) will need a good substrate and should not be kept on just glass. Aspen wood shaving is a good choice and are fairly cheap. And 2 clips are required but 4 would be more secure.

yes, get a corn snake. my science teacher has a corn snake for 6 years. lets it crawl all over peoples desks never ever has bitten any one. and you dont need a clip he uses a bungy cord and the other teacher with a corn snake uses a brick. you are very right they do like to escape. i am in a maddle school and his snake got out and was missing for 6 weeks and the gym tacher found it in a hole in the wall in the gym, so if it gets out, look in tubes, pluming, any small dark areas. he has a light for heat a dish with water and make sure you put like a log or somthing rough in there for when its ready to sheed its skin it can rub against it.
hope i helped!

I love my corns.. they are wonderful pets.. (even my rather aggressive one is still pretty awesome)..

As far as feeders, go with frozen/thawed.. I'd highly recommend finding a reptile expo or something similar near you.. The ones sold at the big stores are much more expensive.. ( $10.99 for 4 adult mice at the store, 30 cents a piece at the expo)

I use aspen bedding mainly, but the soft coconut bedding is nice as well. Feeding tongs are recommended. Other than that.. have fun. Handle it often and you will have a wonderful pet.
